Noogie
The Dreamer is inside a banquet hall with a group of people.
Then the Dreamer’s friend, Pat, is incessantly rubbing the Dreamer’s head.
Then the Dreamer is outside exploring an abandoned group of buildings on the shoreline. He climbs up the outside of the complex and sneaks into a window: he rifles through a stack of papers, as if looking for something unknown. Then the Dreamer wanders to the next part of the complex: this part has a 180 degree view of the water. The possessions in this part of the complex are not abandoned. Then the Dreamer’s friends Peter and Paul arrive. Then an unknown woman arrives. Peter and Paul distract the woman so that the Dreamer can escape.
Then the Dreamer is outside a different building with his Wife. They enter the building and find that it is a library. Then the Dreamer’s Father in Law joins. Then the Dreamer is looking through a stack of returned books. He finds that there is yesterday’s date on one of the return slips and concludes that his building is not abandoned. Then the Dreamer is upstairs in the library. He is naked and he has an erection. Then the Dreamer is looking at a stack of esoteric books. Then the Dreamer is masturbating. Then the Dreamer is looking in a stack of magazines. Then the Dreamer’s Wife appears upstairs, also nude. Then the Dreamer approaches his Wife from behind.
Then the Dreamer is in a business discussion with his ex-employee Ryan. Ryan’s voice is a little deeper than normal.
Context: I had sex with my Wife last night, and had a long lasting erection, but did not climax. Earlier in the night I was browsing Amazon, as I do sometimes, around esoteric titles. This dream continues a couple of motifs from previous dreams: the library with esoteric stacks (“constipation dream”), Peter and Paul (“chasing dog into the theater dream”), the appearance of Father in Law, Dal, in a serious intellectual context (“museum dream”), and the appearance of ex-employee Ryan (“pool orgy dream”).
Associations: I associated the incessant rubbing of my head as a cross between an annoying “noogie” and a rubbing of a magic lamp. I associated the abandoned buildings on the shoreline with a fantasy of living near the sea. I associate Peter and Paul as twins who are creative in an intellectual-conspiratorial way. We bonded over that type of thought. I associated Ryan with moving on, and the deeper voice version of him as being slightly more mature than the last time I saw him.
Feelings: frustration, curiosity, transgression
Interpretation: This is a dream about an intellectual attitude. The Dreamer is too “in his head”, his friend is “rubbing his head” as if it were a genie’s lamp, the Dreamer is “distracted” by intellectual-conspiratorial fantasies, the Dreamer is “mentally masturbating” over esoteric literature. The Dreammaker suggests that these intellectual pursuits are masturbatory in nature: that the Dreamer might reach a slightly higher level of maturity if he “moved on” beyond those interests to a more “serious” level of engagement with the unconscious. After all, why masturbate when in the presence of real intimacy?
