Peanuts
The Dreamer is in his backyard with his Wife.
There’s a neighboring property with beautiful vines hanging down, along the property line. The Dreamer playfully sneaks between the vines. Then the neighbor appears in the distance, using a leaf blower. He blows a bunch of newspaper clipping debris into the air. Then the Dreamer and his Wife are picking something up from the ground: large peanuts. The peanuts are out of their first shell, only the skin layer remains. The Dreamer peels the skin off and pops one in his mouth. This is the best peanut I’ve ever had, he remarks. Then the Dreamer is going through the backseat of his car, and finds more peanuts under the dog bed. Then the Dreamer is talking with his gardener Jen about the peanut tree and the peanuts. Jen says she doesn’t like peanuts. The Dreamer says but have you ever tried this peanut tree? Then the Dreamer is driving down a city street. Then the Dreamer is tailgating a classic car. Then the Dreamer hits the up button on his keyboard. Then that sends the Dreamer’s car into the back of the classic car. There is an Old Woman driving the classic car: she does not mind the bump. Then the Dreamer is driving on a city block: it’s dark, he parks. Then he gets out of the car: he is lost. Then he goes inside of a random building. Then he is inside someone’s office: there is a messy desk. Then there is a motion detector in one of the offices and the lights go on. He begins to flee and sees young people sleeping in the office. The Dreamer runs out the building. He’s looking at the street signs. They’re changing. He can’t find his street.
Then the Dreamer is outside with his Wife. He sees his tile contractor Jorge, and goes over to say hi. Jorge is pumping gas and talking on the phone in Spanish. The Dreamer greets Jorge with a fist bump. Jorge asks the Dreamer where he can buy some corn. The Dreamer says he does not know. Then the Dreamer is at a Farmer’s Market. Then the Dreamer gets in his car and is trying to leave the Market, but the turning radius of the truck is too big to navigate the tight spaces of the Market lot. The Dreamer crashes the side of his truck into an object. Then the Dreamer has lost his Wife. He drives around asking the people at the Market if they have seen his Wife. Nobody has seen his Wife. He leaves the Market.
Then the Dreamer is outside with his employee Chris. Chris shows him a document that he made: a proposal. The Dreamer looks at the proposal: he reads the language and studies the visual charts. Then the Dreamer begins deleting Chris’ work. Then the Dreamer looks for Chris, but he can’t find him.
Then the Dreamer is in a technology store with his Wife. The Dreamer is at the payment counter. The unknown female clerk gives him a document to review and sign. The Dreamer begins to review the document and then the lights go out. The clerk acts like that is normal. The Dreamer has a flashlight with him and manages to review the essential parts of the document. Then the Wife and the Dreamer leave the store. Then the Dreamer is walking outside, his Wife is ahead of him. The Dreamer sees an unknown dog. A young Asian man says the dog wants to go home with the Dreamer. Then the Dreamer is looking for his Wife. The Dreamer can’t find his Wife. Then the Dreamer sees his Wife, crammed in the backseat of a car driven by his high school friend Pat. The Dreamer sees that his Wife is asleep, crammed into the backseat.
Then the Dreamer is in a hotel room with his Wife. His Wife wants to show him some photographs. The photographs include one of her and her sister at the beach: her sister is in a wedding gown and they are playing together. Then she shows the Dreamer another photo, of the Wife on a shoreline, surrounded by litter. The Wife says that she likes this photo the most. There is some music playing in the background that sounds like end credits of a happy ending movie.
Context: We are excitedly waiting for our walnuts, figs, and persimmon trees to drop fruit. The other day I was thinking about how I am no longer the age where I would sleep in an office, like the people who work for Elon Musk; you couldn’t pay me enough to have that kind of lifestyle. My tile contractor Jorge has come up lately in connection with the fact that our general contractor has not paid him. My tile contractor Jorge has come up lately in connection with the fact that our general contractor has not paid him. We went to the Rappahannock Farmer’s Market last weekend.
Associations: Peanuts, “they work for peanuts”, the peanuts are later like dog food under the dog beds, the Dreamer is wild about the peanuts.
Feelings: over-enthusiasm, loss of control, panic, guilt
Interpretation: This is a dream about the feeling function. The Dreamer is still undervaluing it. He’s afraid of losing control. He’s giving more value to spending energy on “peanuts” like shredding the daily news, working late, buying technology, getting new contracts, and reviewing work documents. He has general awareness when his Anima, represented by the Wife, has been lost, is asleep, or left behind. He’s trying to “cram” the feeling function into an old mentality: it’s uncomfortable. The Dreammaker is a little tongue in cheek here, suggesting that the Dreamer re-assess his priorities.
