Ode to Mars

Mid-morning, an altar is set. On the altar incense, affects of a cow, affects of a peacock, and fresh fig leaves.

The Magician calls the four directions and the three worlds, then stands in front of the altar and lights the sandalwood and frankincense. Cocooned in a garment and looking upward to the sky, The Magician begins the invocation:

Melek Taus,
Aryaman,
Deneb Al’Asad,
Al Sarfah,
The Changer of Weather,
Woo Ti Tso,
The Seat of the Five Emperors,
The Sun of our Sun,
The Flaming One,
They who lead the lion by its tail,
Wild,
Violent,
Transgression is your name,
Thunderstar,
You who openly court disgrace,
One day to you is one year to us,
You who spin fast,
You who are brighter than fifteen of our Suns,
Tip of the peacock feather,
We beg of you,
Be here with us!

We offer you to share the wealth of our partners,
We offer you to share the wealth of our family,
We offer you to share in our inheritance,
We beg of you,
Be here with us!

We beg of you,
Teach us to be wild,
Teach us to become one with our animal.
Teach us to dance our animal.
Teach us how to serve you,
So that we may honor this pact between us.
We vow to respect this pact.
We beg of you,
Teach us!

We thank you for this knowledge,
We respect you with this dance,
We ask that you return when we dance so.

Our time together is done,
We have honored you,
You have taught us,
Now we bid you farewell,
We beg of you,
Be gone!
