Close the Windows!

The Dreamer is inside at an event during the early morning.

There are many unknown people inside, eating food. The Dreamer walks to the dessert buffet table and begins to eat sweets, remarking to other guests how he “hasn’t tried this one”, and how “this one is good”. Then the Dreamer walks around and meets some people he had not met before: a couple of snarky guys who the Dreamer says he “wishes he would have met earlier”, and an unknown woman who also is enjoying the dessert table. Then the event is over. All of the people begin to leave. Then there is a glassed-out stone veranda, where there are children outside. There is a storm coming. One of the children yells to the Dreamer to “close the windows!”. There are gusts of wind. The Dreamer hustles around, trying to close the windows. Then the Dreamer is outside in the parking lot and it is dark. There is a large body of water right up to the parking lot. The Dreamer is helping people load their cars, and saying goodbye.

Context: The dream reminded me of my sister-in-laws wedding, which was a few weeks ago.

Associations: I generally enjoy large groups and parties with many unknown people: I like to “work the room”.

Feelings: fun, panic, sadness

Interpretation: This is a dream about intellectual discrimination. The dream motif of “closing the window” and “windows” generally have been seen in The Role Reversal and Gas Station dreams where the Dreammaker has suggested “tightening up the operation” in different areas. This time the Dreammaker is suggesting that the Dreamer “tighten up the operation” in an intellectual sense (reference to wind) regarding the collective unconscious. The Dreamer sees it as a buffet table, where he can consume whatever he wants and talk to whoever he wants, but the inner child knows that this is dangerous. The suggestion is that the Dreamer needs to act with more intellectual discrimination.
