Why Won’t Anyone Hurt Me?

The Dreamer is inside of a community pool.

Then there is a mash up of a pile of flesh: two penises and a vagina, smashed together seen from below: just the flesh and the outlines of the sex parts. Then the Dreamer is in the pool. Then the Dreamer is out of the pool, walking. He sees his friend Richard. The Dreamer offers Richard some marijuana. Then the Dreamer is aggressively swimming ahead of his old friends Rory and Patrick. The Dreamer is making exaggerated spiral strides, half in and half out of the water. Then the Dreamer is talking about business with his prior employee Ryan. Then there is a woman on a phone, talking business to someone else. Then the Dreamer is near the woman, looking for his hotel key in his bag which is near the woman’s table. Then the Dreamer is inside of a hotel, or a house. It is very dark. Then the Dreamer sees Sherri, from high school. Then the Dreamer asks Sherri if she is “a manifestation of the anima”. Sherri is shy. Then Sherri and the Dreamer are in a bathroom and Sherri asks “Why won’t anyone hurt me?” Then the Dreamer begins to choke Sherri, in an erotic way. Then the Dreamer roughly violates Sherri’s anus with his thumb.

Context: The pool theme recurs from an earlier dream (No Charlie, No), but this time it is a community pool (the opposite of luxury). The threesome theme recurs from She Wants to Kill Me.

Associations: I associate Richard with a time in my life when I was addicted to marijuana. I associate Rory and Patrick with bullying and aggression. I associate Ryan with someone who has moved on to a new job. I associate Sherri as an old crush.

Feelings: eroticism, aggression

Interpretation: This dream is about an attitude toward aggression, addiction, and sex. The Dreamer is regressed to an addicted state: on the one hand he thinks that he is leaps and bounds ahead of his shadow carrying friends, but on the other hand he has not yet moved on. The Dreammaker is suggesting that the Dreamer’s aggression, which he in some ways is proud of, or pitying himself for, and it is still causing his feeling function harm: there is an immature, high schoolish, erotic feeling underneath the emotional self-harm.
