Marge
The Dreamer is outside, at night.
His employees Miles and Savannah are present. Miles is sketching an image on paper. The image looks like the hair of Marge Simpson. The Dreamer says “Marge”. Then the Dreamer related “Marge” to “Mother”. As if he is guessing the identity of the drawing being sketched, like a game of charades.
Then the Dreamer is inside a sex toy shop with his Wife. The Dreamer thinks: if Elon Musk had a sex toy it would be a butt plug in the shape of a rocket. Then the Dreamer is rummaging through a bin of black, limp, discounted, butt plugs. Then the Dreamer is at the front of the cashier’s line. Then the Dreamer is asking the Cashier if his Wife wanted anything from the shop. The Cashier has the Dreamer’s last name written down. He tells the Dreamer that no, his Wife has not indicated an interest in any of the items at that shop.
Then the Dreamer is outside looking for his Wife. She hasn’t yet come out of the shop. Then the Dreamer is on the phone with his Father. The Dreamer’s Father says that the Dreamer’s Wife has gone out on a date with her boyfriend and that she won’t be home for a long time. The Dreamer does not believe it: he suspects that his Father is drugged up on painkillers and doesn’t know what he is talking about.
Context: My employee Miles came to town yesterday for a business meeting with a client. We played golf. He stayed at our house. We stayed up a little late talking. My Father has just had hip replacement surgery; my Grandmother said that he was in the hospital on a good amount of painkillers. This dream continues sexual themes, and also “anal” theme with the butt plug and the Dreamer’s previous experience with fingering the anus of a dream figure, and with the constipation of the risk-taking friend in the School Spies dream.
Associations: I am associating butt plugs, and these butt references, with my own (thinking function related) anal retentiveness. I associate Marge Simpson with a creative, fictional, cartoon, character: she wears a necklace of pearls, and is the spouse of the archetypal Fool, Homer Simpson.
Feelings: cleverness, boyishness, fear, disbelief
Interpretation: This is a continuation of the “search for the feeling function”. The Dreamer has found himself in many situations: luxury hotels, luxury gift shops, luxury restaurants, shopping mall food courts, cheap gift shops, luxury clothing shops, discounting clothing shops, and now a (regressive) sex toy shop. The Dreamer is guessing about the identity of the feeling function, and guessed “Marge”: incidentally, Marge is short for Margaret, which means “pearl”. Pearl is the gift that the Dreamer gave to his Wife in a past dream, which she accepted. Unlike the anal plugs, which the Wife is not interested in. The Dreamer conflates “Marge” as meaning“Mother”. The Dreammaker is suggesting that the Dreamer is onto something in his guessing game, and that the two parts of the feeling function “the pearl” and “the mother” are not yet differentiated.
