Da Bears
The Dreamer is inside of a theater with college friends. There is an argument between them. Then the Dreamer changes seats and moves closer to the front row, alone. The other people in the theater are all upset that the Dreamer is disrupting the show, but there is nothing on the screen.
Then the Dreamer is outside. He calls his father on the phone. His father is upset that the Dreamer has missed his curfew. The Dramer admits that he has been out with friends getting drunk. He begs for some cash to get home. The father meets the request with a steely silence.
Then the Dreamer is inside a restaurant. The menu says the restaurant only serves corn; corn in a bowl, corn on the cob — but your choice of sauces. The Dreamer is standing in line for his corn when he gets to the front of the line there is an unknown black man next to him. The black man asks the cashier for a sausage. The cashier says that sausage is only served for dinner.
Then there are wild bears loose, outside of the restaurant. Someone lets the bears into the restaurant. The bears cause a bunch of commotion that the Dreamer does not understand. One of the bears comes near the Dreamer and he sprays it in the eyes with some bear spray.
Then the Dreamer is outside at an event. His friend Pat appears in a rush. Pat tells the Dreamer that he has a date. The Dreamer points out that Pat has a stain on his shirt, and that his shoe laces are untied. Pat is not happy to stop. The Dreamer helps him tie his shoe for him.
Associations: I used to be very scared of my father around curfew. I remember one time when I was 13 and had been drinking with some friends and my father caught wind and gave me a good “talking to”. Let’s say that “corn” was the only thing on the menu. Popcorn and a movie was the extent of the nourishment from my father. Maybe watching the Chicago Bears game “together”. Heaven forbid I interfere with his schedule.
Interpretation: The Dreamer is processing the narcissistic neglect of his father.
