Sheriff

The Dreamer is inside of a hotel. There is some commotion among the younger employees about a coming storm.

Then the Dreamer goes outside to run an errand. He sees Jay Leno walking a dog.

Then the Dreamer returns to the inside of the hotel; he is soaking wet.

Then he is outside, and climbing the wall. He is on top of an awning. He touches a heavy light fixture and it comes off the chain. He tries to do damage control. Then he sees a hotel employee in a white coat across the way. He asks if he can swing over to the patio. The employee agrees. The Dreamer propels himself over there. Then there is another employee and a Sheriff on the balcony. The Sheriff accuses the Dreamer of doing something wrong, of burying an object. The employee says it’s not the Dreamer’s fault. The Dreamer tells the Sheriff off.

Then the Sheriff lifts his arm, and the Dreamer lifts his arm, instinctively, in self-defense. The Sheriff was only raising his arm to show the Dreamer his badge, but now he thinks that the Dreamer is violent. The Sheriff says he’ll be following the Dreamer downstairs, just to be safe.

Interpretation: This is a dream about an attitude toward other people. The Dreamer sees himself as a funny guy, like Jay Leno, but other people see the Dreamer like a Sheriff who can “climb up the wall”, “fly off the chain”, “bring a storm” at any moment. The Dreammaker is suggesting that there is an instinctive origin for this behavior in the Dreamer’s response to false accusations (from the father). The Dreamer has learned to be strong and defend himself from such accusations, but perhaps these defenses are a little too strong, or have overserved their purposes.
