Sequin
The Dreamer is in an indoors swimming pool.
He is naked and erect. There is an unknown woman outside of the pool. Then the Dreamer has his cell phone in his hand and the screen is glowing bright. Then the Dreamer is masturbating. Then the Dreamer drops his cell phone in the water, picks it up, drops it, picks it up. Then the unknown woman is in the pool. Then someone tells the Dreamer that the unknown woman was an adult movie actress. Then the Dreamer meets the unknown woman and there is an attraction.
Then the dreamer is outside but near his car, waiting for the unknown woman outside of her residence. Then the Dreamer goes inside. The inside is dark and nobody is home. Then the Dreamer is in a room, picking out clothes. Then the Dreamer is packing a suitcase. Then the Dreamer is inside of crowded room of people with his baggage. Then there is a couple dressed head to toe in sequins. Then an unknown woman sits across from the Dreamer with a microphone. Then this unknown woman is describing to an audience how the Dreamer put this event together. Then she asks him to say a few words. Then he says he cannot hear her, maybe later. Then he says something about “the intersection of design, architecture, and art”.
Then the man is looking for the first unknown woman again, now in a lounge. Then he sees another man with a mustache who is smartly dressed. Then he goes to the bar counter. Then he looks at a menu. On the cover of the menu is an illustration of a swimming hole and some text about that location. Then the Dreamer opens the menu, but there is no food described.
Then the Dreamer is walking outside, down the street; it is night. Then an unknown man confronts the Dreamer. Then the Dreamer responds with ambivalence and keeps walking. Then the unknown man walks besides the Dreamer and asks the Dreamer if he sees the police parked outside. The Dreamer does not see any police. The unknown man says “it’s a good thing there are two cops watching you, otherwise I would fleece you good.” The Dreamer laughs.
Then the Dreamer is watching a wrestling match: Battle Royale, every man for himself. Then the Dreamer is running outside. Danny Devito is running next to the Dreamer. They make it inside, in the nick of time. The analog clock almost reads 5:00. Then the Dreamer throws his suit jacket on the floor and sighs in relief. He is out of breath; so is Danny Devito. Then an unknown woman tells them that “the doctor recommended placing a pillow over the face of the child for 25 seconds to help make it stronger”.
Context: The “intersection of design, architecture, and art” is a part of the mission of my media company, BuildingGreen. We have been talking about attending events at the company.
Motifs: Pool and swimming hole, associated with relaxation. Clothing, associated with persona.
Associations: Cell phone, popularity; suitcase, baggage; microphone, being heard; sequin, being seen; lounge, relaxation; police, protection; Danny Devito; fat and funny little man; a pillow over the face, suffocation. I had a strong reaction to the “pillow over the face”, before waking up there was a moment when I felt like there was a deep memory. When I was a boy, I used to have to watch my sister (me: 10, sister: 4). Sometimes when we rough-housed, I would be too rough and she would cry. Sometimes I would put a pillow over her face to muffle her crying. When my Mother was dying in hospice, I considered putting a pillow over her face to put her out of her misery. I wonder if someone put a pillow over my face during infancy.
Feelings: arousal, obsession, pride, excitement
Interpretation: This is a dream about the mother complex and feeling function. The Dreamer is overexcited about recognition “trying to find it” on his phone, in the eyes of unknown women (mother complex), on the microphone, in his media business, in the way he dresses (sequins screams “look at me”), in trying to be a “funny guy”; he wants to be seen, he wants to be heard, unlike the baby with a pillow over its face. The Dreammaker is suggesting that this is an inauthentic act (female actress, male actress, smart clothing); the better position is to “relax into it” and “keep on walking”. There is also, perhaps, a suggestion for the temporal origin of this complex in the numbers 5:00 and 25 (5 times 5).
