Old Crow

The Dreamer is outside a building with an unknown friend.

There is an old crow with a heavy load, perhaps carrying another animal with it. It is trying to get on the roof of the building. It tries once, and hits the gutter. It tries again, the same. It tries a third time and makes it onto the roof. Immediately the crow hits a protruding sky light bubble on the roof. Then the Dreamer sees inside, that a heavy fabric tapestry has fallen from the ceiling of the room. The room that it has fallen from has a dome shape, glass ceiling, and a banquet is setup below.

The Dreamer goes inside and the Dreamer’s Mother wants him to fix the tapestry. The Dreamer climbs up to the roof and tries to fix the tapestry, but the tapestry is huge and the buttons are awkward and it is more than one person can reasonably do.

Then the Dreamer comes down off the roof and meets an unknown woman. The unknown woman suggests that the tapestry does not need to be rehung. She says that there are other people who agree. She leads the Dreamer into a room with a couple of people. These people have an aristocratic air about them, and do not want to tell the Dreamer what they think. The Dreamer says, “Tell me what you think, I can handle the truth.” The couple decline to tell the Dreamer. Then the unknown woman tells the Dreamer, dissuading him from trying to fix the tapestry, “It’s a civilian job”. Then the Dreamer and the unknown woman passionately kiss. The Dreamer is aroused.

Context: We are watching a television show called Outrageous, about British aristocrats.

Motifs: Mother, associated with hard work.

Associations: Crow, associated with a spirit animal for travel to the lower world. The crow is old, but still bears a heavy responsibility. The tapestry above the dome shaped banquet room I associated with the stars. The aristocrats I associate with people who do not work.

Feelings: wonderment, pride, and passion

Interpretation: The Dreamer is struggling with an attitude related to work. The Old Crow could get to a better vantage point if only he could drop the heavy load. Once the Crow gets there, the heavy tapestry drops from the ceiling and lets in the light. The Mother complex wants the Dreamer to “get back to work”, but passion calls him in a different, more romantic, direction.
