Inside the Stadium

The Dreamer is behind the scenes of the stadium, on a tour, with a crowd of people.

The Dreamer is suspicious about the Tour Guide. The Dreamer suspects that the Tour Guide is a Thief. The Dreamer accuses the Tour Guide, but she insists that she is not a Thief. This denial increases the Dreamer’s suspicions. The Tour Guide is leading a crowd of people. She links arms with the other people on the tour in solidarity. The Dreamer wants to participate and tries to link arms. Now the Tour Guide is the suspicious one: she at first declines to link arms with the Dreamer, but then agrees. Then the Dreamer is linked in a chain with the Tour Guide and the other people on the tour. One of the people on the tour is a young girl that the Dreamer knows from grammar school, named Jenny. The young girl is suspicious of the Tour Guide. The Dreamer has an intuition about why Jenny has misplaced suspicions about the Tour Guide: he leans over to the Tour Guide and whispers in her ear: “It’s bigger than you and me.” The Tour Guide agrees.

Context: None that I can think of

Associations: I like big crowds of people at events and I like tours. Jenny was a friend in school: she was kind of shy, smart, and lived across the street from one of my best friends. Sometimes when I was young I would wonder about going to Jenny’s house to play, or about Jenny coming across the street to hang out with us, but never communicated that to my friend.

Feelings: suspicion, belonging

Interpretation: This is a dream about an attitude toward the collective unconscious. The motif of the Thief returns. The Dreamer “has taken” something from the collective, perhaps an attitude that is from “grammar school”. The Dreammaker suggests that the Guide is open to the Dreamer joining the “Tour”, but first the Dreamer must drop his “suspicions”. At the end of the dream, the Dreamer realizes that this process is “bigger than you and me”.
